Possibly a pleasant surprise!

15 juil. 2016 — Update: I spoke to an official at the Consulate General of India, NY (CGI NY) today. As per them, this policy has been in place since 2006! The same person also said, "We always recommend having the OCI reissued prior to 21 years of age and after 50 years of age, but if you do not want to do that then you can carry your old passport, new passport and OCI card with you when traveling to India!" To me, this means that this policy has not been "seriously" implemented (yet) at the immigration check points at the Indian airports. Regardless, existence of such a policy posted on the official websites of Indian government and its outsourced agencies (CKGS) is still a threat, and it causes confusion and anxiety among all NRIs worldwide. If it is really true that this policy has been in place for last 10 years, it's truly a pleasant surprise that I did not expect, because evidently it has never been "practiced" at the actual immigration check points in India for so many years (and, we certainly do not want to complain about that!) It also means that this policy was a creation of the previous government in India, and therefore it is even more imperative that PM Modi seriously act on it to repeal it and he should do that now if he really wants to make immigration to India NRI-friendly. In other words, while I feel a little relieved about this policy's "on the ground" impact, I still insist that through this petition we get the policy retracted from all official websites altogether, so it is truly not in effect, even in print.
