The Issue
PETITION FOR THE IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OR SUSPENSION OF SUPERINTENDENT DR. BARBARA MULLEN
TO THE RUSH-HENRIETTA CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION:
In light of the recent violent altercations at Rush-Henrietta Senior High School and the ongoing inaction of the administration, we demand that the Board of Education immediately remove or suspend Superintendent Dr. Barbara Mullen while her policies, hiring practices, financial decisions, and handling of school safety are thoroughly investigated.
Superintendents must be proactive problem solvers, not reactive ones. Dr. Mullen’s failure to address escalating risks has put the safety, security, and well-being of our students and staff throughout the district in direct danger.
WHY WE ARE DEMANDING CHANGE
Compromised School Safety: Serious safety threats, including suspended students regaining entry to classrooms, physical violence resulting in hospitalizations, and chaotic lockdowns, are being downplayed to protect public image rather than solved.
PR and Image Over Action: The administration consistently prioritizes press releases and photo opportunities over real security solutions, basic transparency, and honest communication with parents and staff.
Unequal Enforcement: The Code of Conduct is not applied fairly. Serious violations are quietly brushed aside for select individuals to protect district branding, while others face strict enforcement.
A Culture of Fear and Retaliation: Frontline teachers, staff, and union members report a hostile work environment where raising safety or special education concerns leads to professional retaliation, reassignment, or silence.
OUR DEMANDS TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION
We call on the Board of Education to uphold its duty to represent this community, protect our children, and support our educators by taking immediate action:
Remove or Suspend the Superintendent: Immediately suspend Dr. Mullen pending a full independent investigation into her safety protocols, hiring practices, and budget allocations, with the ultimate goal of terminating her employment.
Launch a Transparent Leadership Search: Begin an open, community-centered search for new leadership that operates with integrity, prioritizes student safety, and supports staff.
Call for Union Votes of No Confidence: We urge the Rush-Henrietta Education Association and all district bargaining units to hold official votes of no confidence to put staff concerns on the record.
