What does the future hold for Paisley Park? We still do not know even though it has been officially designated as a museum, which we celebrate because Prince made it known that is what he wanted. But that honor does not carry with it the same protection as does designation as a National Historic Landmark. While the estate is still within the courts, which is costing his estate money, this is also financially beneficial to the estate due to the eligibility for free federal grants and free inspections. And, it will remain privately owned by Prince's heirs. There are no rights that his family will be giving up at all.
I'm certain that most of you know of Louis Armstrong. Where is his New Orleans birthplace? Under the transit center. His New Orleans childhood home? Underneath City Hall. Both demolished. Ever heard of famous jazz innovator Buddy Bolden? He is landmark jazz musician. He died in 1931.His home is now dilapidated and may possibly be demolished. Read about it here: http://thelensnola.org/2016/10/09/calling-on-a-higher-power-to-save-a-jazz-landmark-buddy-boldens-home/
But the good news is that the homes of those musicians and other historic figures whose homes were designated as National Historic Landmarks are still standing, in great condition and receiving grants for ongoing upkeep and free inspections to maintain the integrity of the structure. Doesn't Paisley Park deserve that too? It was not just his home, it was his studio where he created the music that will live forever, and where he also enjoyed performing.
This is why it is up to US to get Paisley Park designated as a National Historic Landmark ... NOW. We can then know that Prince's beloved Paisley Park will always be safe, and we can truly say that Prince is resting in peace. It is up to US, the ones who lived on this earth during the time he lived, who enjoyed his live performances, who continue to love his music. He would also want it to be a place that encouraged learning of actual music by young people. It must stand for all time. So please continue to share and sign this petition over and over again, everywhere. Email it to those who are fans but not on social media.
Your signatures are evidence of the tremendous amount of support by his "fam" and "friends" (as he called us), for preservation of his home.
Time moves on and people come and go, artist come and go, but there will NEVER be another Prince. Let's get to work fam! He loved us and we will always love him! #Prince4EVER #savepaisleypark #PrinceRIP
