The Issue

For decades, Catherine O’Hara has brought intelligence, heart, and fearless creativity to film and television. Born in Toronto, she began her career here before becoming one of the most respected and beloved performers in the world. Her work has helped define modern comedy and has carried Canadian talent and storytelling onto the global stage.

Toronto is a city that prides itself on culture, film, and artistic excellence. TIFF Lightbox, in particular, stands as a focal point for that identity. It is a place where Canadian cinema is celebrated and shared with the world — making it a fitting location to recognize Catherine O’Hara’s enduring legacy.

This petition proposes an honorary street name designation for the stretch of King Street West in front of TIFF Lightbox, to be known as Catherine O’Hara Way. This would be a ceremonial recognition only and would not change the official street name or affect local addresses.

Designating Catherine O’Hara Way would offer a visible, lasting acknowledgment of her contributions to the arts, her connection to Toronto, and the impact her work has had on audiences across generations. It would be a meaningful way for the city to celebrate one of its own and to reflect the values of creativity, excellence, and cultural pride that she represents.

We invite the City of Toronto to consider this honorary designation as a tribute to Catherine O’Hara’s remarkable legacy.
