First Public Session to Show Glenbrook's Plans for The Electric Cinema Site
Tomorrow (Thu 16th May) is your first opportunity to tell Glenbrook Property Developers and Howells Architects what you think of their plans to demolish some/all of The UK's oldest cinema for a 50 floor block of flats.

Glenbrook Property Developers will be hosting a drop-in session - you can attend any time between 12-7pm for as little or long as you like. The session will be at Birmingham Open Media (BOM), 12 Dudley St, Birmingham, B5 4EA.

We expect they won't show the 50 floor tower which will be hugely disappointing. If this is the case please tell them this isn't acceptable as it'll overshadow and completely change the streetscape. No idea what they'll present regarding The Electric and ground floor level. Might be amazing, might be horrific. You can tell them what you think of their plans though.

It is vitally important we show them how much The Electric means to Birmingham as it is in person. We've not asked you to protest etc. in person - there have been plenty of amazing causes to protest for in person recently in the city! - but tomorrow, Thursday 16th May is your first chance to make your voice heard to the (literal) architects of the closure of The Electric Cinema when they present their plans to the public. They'll be banking on the fact it has been almost 3 months meaning we care less... show them otherwise. Politely of course.

Some Good News on The Electric Cinema:
Huge thanks to Flatpack Festival for leading on getting funding confirmed for an independent feasibility study funded by the BFI & The John Feeney Charitable Trust. This will look at the best options for The Electric as an operating cinema going forward by experts in the field.

An Asset of Community Value
The Electric has also now been designated an Asset of a Community Value by Birmingham Council. Assets of Community Value CAN still be demolished if planning is granted but there are a number of extra safeguards included (Learn more about ACV's). Though we still desperately need Historic England to list The Electric for more substantial protection.

See you all tomorrow?
I'll probably be doing some work in Cherry Reds at some point before/after I attend. Support local independent businesses.
