The Issue

From years of personal exploration and enjoyment, it's clear that clothing optional beaches have considerable potential as a tourist attraction. I've witnessed this firsthand at the Cape Canaveral National seashore in Florida, which is home to two clothing optional beaches. The level of comfort, freedom, and inclusivity these spaces offer is truly unparalleled. This is precisely why I'm campaigning to designate a portion of Pea Island, Cape Hatteras National Seashore as a clothing optional beach in Rodanthe, NC.

Seashores represent a calm serenity, an escape we all deserve to experience on our own terms. Florida's nude beaches not only offer this freedom, but also contribute to tourism. It's estimated that Haulover Beach in Miami, for example, attracts over 1.3 million visitors a year and contributes approximately $980,000 annually in parking revenue (Source: Miami Herald).

While the ecological integrity of Pea Island needs to be preserved, with careful planning, we can create a safe, inclusive space that respects both our freedom and nature. The potential social and economic benefits, combined with the chance to reduce long drives for North Carolinians looking for clothing-optional beaches, makes this cause worth pursuing.

By signing this petition, you'll help endorse the creation of an environment where people can embrace and respect their bodies, and generate a new avenue for tourism, job creation, and community connection. Please sign this petition to compel our local authorities to consider creating a clothing-optional beach at Pea Island, Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
