Thanks to your support and efforts, our grassroots petition was recognized in the news article below wherein it is noted that Walmart is officially moving forward with plans to open a Supercenter in DHS on Palm Drive...but not without a fight! Does it bother anyone else that in the article it is reported that Walmart is paying for a consultant to handle their application for the city which will contain a very influential recommendation to the council?! Huge conflict of interest and definitely not the norm. This follows on the fact that Walmart also selected and paid for their own consultant to produce the important Environmental Impact Report that by state law requires studies on impacts that the supercenter will have on traffic, crime and the local economy. Of course their hand picked consultant is only going to say great things about the proposed supercenter! It is becoming increasingly clear that the city council is about to be presented with a bunch of Walmart propaganda that unfortunately, is what they often rely on in making their decisions. So we must do what we can to keep Walmart honest and let the council know what we, the residents think about this proposed corporate giant- that it's the wrong kind of growth for our town!
