Currently the fantastic new climbing facility in Derry-Londonderry's Foyle Arena is not open to under 8's. Nothing is stated on the http://foylearena.com/ site about this restriction- so parents/guardians can arrive and be turned away.

This rule is applied even if a climbing parent/guardian is there (and may be an experienced climber or instructor), the child is able to work with assistance on the bouldering wall, a chest harness is used on the main wall/s etc. This is stopping climbers with young kids using the wall, and discriminates against children achieving an early start at climbing competency under the age of 8.

Procedures at the facility fail to explain why this is the case, particularly when this rule does not apply at other climbing walls in the UK and Ireland
