Maryland Hazard!!! Traffic circles at Beltway Exit 13

Maryland Hazard!!! Traffic circles at Beltway Exit 13
The Issue
Lets spark change in prince Georges county Md. The structure of the exit between Upper Marlboro and Capital Heights is poses a hazard to all who work, live or travel through the traffic circles at exit 13 off 495. Adding Traffic lights or posting lane assignments overhead are a safer alternative.
- There are no shoulders for disabled vehicles. When a vehicle is disabled or there is a police pullover or there is an accident its is dangerous and even more difficult for drivers to maneuver around the circles.
- Drivers do not give each other the right of way. It is common for people not to stop when approaching the circle. Right of way goes to vehicles in the circle but there is no signage.
- There are one or two signs explaining lane direction but they are too low and often covered by trees. the paint markers on the ground are of no help in traffic you can't see them.
- Depending on what exit you are taking to enter the south entrance the grass is so tall you can't see any approaching vehicles. That is a hazard.
- When it snows it isn't properly shoveled making lanes impossible to navigate. In icy conditions it is even worse.
- The foliage is nice but people need to be able to see. They are a hinderance to the view. It would be easier to spot hazards and other traffic.
- When its rush hour the volume of vehicles is high and getting through the circles takes a long time. There is no way of directing the flow of traffic. Drivers get frustrated and just end up pulling out in front of each other. Better signage is imperative.
- The circles don't handle the amount of traffic that comes through them on the daily basis very well. It is only getting worse. We have a new hospital, FedEx Field, at least 6 new apartment buildings and housing developments, not to mention major shopping areas all down the street. We need the county directly involved to help traffic move smoother.
- The lanes are confusing to drivers so incorrect lanes are being used causing accidents. We do not need insurance rates to go up based on flaws in planning. All of these citizens deserve to get to their destinations safely.
- The Canadian Goose in the area get hit often trying to cross in the warmer months. There is no signage letting people know they are in the area. They are federally protected by law. They deserve at least a sign.
- Since exit 15 B was closed it has also added to the volume of traffic coming to exit 13, yet no measure has been taken to better the infrastructure of this exit.
