Revoke the unfair eviction of vulnerable pensioners Rod Taylor and Anne Gavin

Revoke the unfair eviction of vulnerable pensioners Rod Taylor and Anne Gavin
The Issue
The Canal & River Trust has outraged a boating community in East London, after its commercial subsidiary BWML issued a 28 day eviction notice to a vulnerable elderly couple who had simply followed the company’s prescribed complaints procedure.
- Despite being exemplary residents and genuine pillars of the community at Poplar Dock Marina for fourteen years, the couple have little legal protection and no statutory rights. Current legislation does not protect live-aboard boaters with access to property tribunals or security of tenure.
- Rod contested a range of inconsistencies in the company’s terms & conditions, and in promises and statements made to customers over the years. He was effectively standing up for all BWML customers, who would have benefited from a judgement in his favour.
- Both Rod and Annie are recovering from cancer treatment. Additionally, Rod (75) suffered severe heart failure last year. This eviction could leave them with nowhere to moor their boat, Wylam, which they have lived on in Poplar Dock Marina for fourteen years.
- We are calling for the Canal and River Trust to take responsibility for the aggressive actions of it's subsidiary BWML and revoke this unfair eviction notice of these pensioners who are valued members of the community and have done nothing that actually contradicts the Mooring Contract Terms and Conditions.
