Stop Strangling one of the UK's best Independent Shops - Save Sheena Holland!

'Sheena Holland' ( is a thriving shop built from the ground up into one of the country's foremost handmade and vintage retailers, with customers including Pink and Lily Allen.

It's now being choked to death by renovation works being undertaken by Derby City Council which are making the shop invisible, dirty and noisy. In two weeks time Sheena's business could go under and she could lose her house. We want Derby City Council to show that it cares about great independent shops and help Save Sheena!

Why are they doing this work? To create workshop spaces for creative start up businesses. And yet, ironically her shop has 60% of stock Sheena herself has handmade using re-worked vintage, which has led the vanguard in regenerating this area, but is being killed off while they do it! Since the work has started her sales have been down up to £600 per week. She's right behind the need to renovate, and fully supports the council's moves to attract creative businesses being one herself; She just wants them to invest in her too while this work goes on.

Please sign and ask Derby City Council to do the right thing by:

- not charging rent while this regeneration and heritage work is being done on Kings Chambers and the Swimming Pool

- helping keep the business visible by creating a logo banner the width of the shop as she requested with her design ASAP

- cleaning the windows and clearing up the debris twice weekly

- 30% of electricity bills for the shop during the works process as the scaffolding has darkened the shop

The relative cost to DCC for doing this will be tiny. She is a sole trader, and will go under in a matter of weeks, probably losing her home as a result. The stress and uncertainty has made her physically ill. All She wants to do is carry on building up the business she has thrown her all at for the last 10 years. We do not wish to put pressure on DCC but wish to merely raise an issue.

Local elections will be held next year for seats on Derby Council. Everyone in Britain wants our High Streets to have successful independent traders. Let's put our voices together to ask DCC to lead the way nationally, thanking them for their work to provide space for creative businesses, but demanding that one of Derby's best businesses isn't killed off in the process.
