Reverse Arriva Derby Bus Changes
The Issue
Thousands of Derby passengers travel needs are now not being met, because of the changes made by Arriva Midlands East to many of the Derby services.
When I organised my first petition about the buses last October, I focused only on the bus routes I used myself (no7) but it soon became clear that the problems affected nearly all the routes Arriva had made changes to, which disadvantaged thousands of people & affected their daily travel arrangements.
I have now organised a second petition to cover ALL the Arriva services, where passengers are unhappy about the changes that have been made.
I urge anyone in the Derby area, who can no longer get where they want to go, or whose journey has become more difficult since the changes were made by Arriva, to sign the petition immediately & ask your friends to do the same !!!
This petition is calling for Derby City Council, to liaise with Arriva Midlands East, using all the powers available to them to Appeal to Arriva Midlands East to take the following action;
1) Move the terminus point for the number 7 service back to the Bus Station, where basic passenger facilities such as shelter, seating, toilets & adequate lighting are readily available. (At present we have only one poorly lit bus stop where we can catch this bus, right up Osmaston Rd near Bourne St, half a mile uphill from Derby Market Place, with no shelter or seating which is totally unacceptable.) The CCTV does NOT cover this area putting passengers at risk.
2) Prohibit Arriva from running services along the many residential city side streets, that are too narrow to accommodate buses safely, due to the on street parking. Also to impose penalties on Arriva for any breach of weight restrictions in these areas, or disruption caused to the flow of traffic, due to the presence of buses.
3) For discontinued & reduced services in Alvaston, Mackworth, Littleover, Ascot Drive, Wyvern & Pride Park to be re-instated to accommodate passengers requirements, (including any area I may have inadvertently missed.)
A similar petition in another city nearby generated 12000 signatures within a few days. I am trying to get at least 4000 signatures on this petition before January 24th, so that Derby's bus problems & possible solutions can be the subject of a debate at the next Full Council Meeting.
PLEASE HELP ME ACHIEVE THIS !!!
Please sign this petition, to reverse the changes that were made, and ask that Derby City Council Appeal to Arriva Midlands East, using all the powers available to them, to bring back a bus service that the people of Derby deserve & will want to use.
