Now is the time to put pressure on the Judge in Fajardo to be fair and impartial!!!

An injunction has been filed to have all further destruction of the wetland stopped and all further work by the developer stopped until the legality of the permits and the zoning and studies are reviewed by independent entities. This is a very important flood zone and an ecologically and archealogically valuable area.
The people of Luquillo are not against progress but they do not want to lose their houses in the name of progress.

The lawyers of the environmental group Cuidadanos por un Luquillo Resiliente (CLR) filed an injunction yesterday in the Court of First Instance of Fajardo to revoke the construction permit that authorized the works in the wetland Monserrate in Luquillo.
The attorney Lemuel Torres is representing the group of Luquillenses who have joined forces to denounce the environmental crimes of Luquillo Hotel Company, LLC, which is part of the Prisa Group, in this area of high ecological and historical value.
"Rampant corruption results in the environmental destruction of vital areas that protect surrounding communities. This is why our community has come together to combat environmental violence, lack of transparency and the permitting mafia that are causing so much damage to our town." commented Ángel González, retired professor and environmental activist.
"The environmental impacts that are already occurring and those expected would be detrimental to our community. In Puerto Rico there are laws, regulations, and public policy to protect our wetlands and mangroves, rather than destroy them for development. The proper studies were not carried out out after Hurricane Maria. This area is designated as floodable. There have been no public hearings. In the past, permits had already been denied for the construction of a water park in the area. We cannot allow the destruction of our habitat to continue, " responded Monica Stamper Donaldson, Luquillense teacher and community activist.
