Police Must Face Hate Crime Charges for Killing Unarmed Black Men & People of Color
The Issue
Racism exists in various institutions throughout the United States. This systematic racism is becoming more obvious in the police forces throughout America, and must be eradicated. If the racial discrimination remain in the police forces, people of color will lose hope that they will be served and protected as well as everyone else.
People of the African American communities in the United States are becoming increasingly fearful for their lives at the hand of racist police officers. Although these citizens recognize that police are in place to maintain public order and safety enforce the law, and prevent, detect and investigate criminal activities, they are losing trust in police. They fear for their lives at the hands of racist police officers.
When an unarmed person of color, in particular a person of African descent, is kill by a police, the officer is suspected of being racist. If this is the case, that officer has probably committed a hate crime in the guise of Duty.
African American communities know that hate crimes are typically motivated by prejudice on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, or other grounds. These communities are tired of losing their unarmed community members to deaths at the hands of a police officer.
In order to hold police forces accountable for serving and protecting all citizens without prejudice, we propose that any police officer who kills an unarmed person of color be charged for committing a hate crime.
When found guilty , these murderers must be punished by life in prison or the death penalty.
With such a law in place, the African American community will recognize that some effort is being put forth to eradicate systemic racism in the United States.
