Why this petition matters

Started by Nasrin Haque

I am Dr Nasrin Haque, a full-time practicing GP in NSW. Sumaya's father Dr Shafiqul Bhuiyan is also a full-time GP and a specialist in several fields. I have been living in Australia with my two children since 2009 and I applied for a permanent residency visa in June 2010. My application has been refused due to the fact that my daughter, Sumaya Bhuiyan, 15 years old, has a developmental delay. I filed an appeal with the Appeals Administrative Tribunal, and they have officially recommended that our case be referred to the Minister of Immigration and Border Protection for consideration of intervention, since my husband and I are both medical practitioners and my employer considers me to be a valuable asset to the Australian community. Hon Minister Peter Dutton MP is expected to make his decision about our visa in a very short time.

The Australian government is concerned that Sumaya will be a financial burden on the state. Although she does attend a special school, she has not received any other support from the state during her 8 years in Australia. Sumaya is an independent young girl with strong computer skills and manages all activities of daily living on her own. My full-time position as a GP allows me to financially support my family without assistance from the Australian state.

Sumaya's brother, Sakir Bhuiyan, 14 years old, attends mainstream high school and his performance is excellent.

I have extensive family support here in Australia. My sister, brother and parents are all Australian citizens. They have been living and working in Australia for many years. My children have a close relationship with their aunts, uncles and their grandparents.  Although Sumaya and Sakir were born in Hungary, they are no longer able to speak Hungarian since they have been fully integrated into Australian society for 8 years now. If we are deported back to Hungary, we will not be able to function. Deportation would tear our family apart, and destroy my childrens' chances of completing their education and becoming productive members of society.

Please show your support by signing my urgent online petition requesting Hon Minister Peter Dutton to intervene my case and grant us permanent residency in Australia!

Please…please support us, there could only be a few days left until the decision!!!
