Every resident of Ireland has the right to register to vote in elections.

This process should be equally accessible for all, however as it stands only people residing in Co. Dublin have the ability to register to vote online on voter.ie. In a Covid-19 environment, in the midst of a national lockdown, the traditional method of printing off relevant forms and sending it to local authorities is extremely inaccessible for many people. Many do not have access to the facilities and services needed to register to vote in this way. Allowing only one county, out of twenty-six, access to online voter registration undoubtedly amounts to voter suppression.

This petition is calling on the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, it’s Minister, Darragh O'Brien, and Junior Minister Malcolm Noonan, who is responsible for electoral reform, to allow all Counties in Ireland the ability to register to vote online.
