The Issue

The Students and Exchange Visitors Program, which oversees nonimmigrant students with J-1 and M-1 visas at universities and vocational schools respectively under Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has recently implemented new guidelines, which would revoke all visas at schools operating 100% online, all vocational degree programs, and all English language training programs and severely restrict the amount of online classes international students can take at other schools and programs. The guidelines can be found in the link below:

These new guidelines are highly discriminatory towards international students and disregarding of current hardships international students face from being far from home to ever-existing xenophobia, the countless contributions international students bring to American universities, and the many benefits of overseas education. America's institutions of higher education would not be the same without international students.

We therefore ask the Department of Homeland Security, ICE, and President Donald J. Trump and his administration to immediately rescind these new guidelines and implement policies that look out for the legal status and well-being of international students instead of making their education more difficult or even impossible for discriminatory and political purposes. We further ask members of Congress and universities, vocational schools, and other educational programs across the United States to stand against these new policies and pressure DHS, ICE, and the Trump administration to rescind these guideline changes.
