Free Amos Yee for USA asylum

This petition had 3,690 supporters

Amos Yee is a Singapore YouTuber who has been arrested in his country, Singapore, twice for criticizing the Singapore government, Christianity and Islam. He came to America to seek refuge so he could exercise his free speech but due to the US's flawed immigration policy, after hearing that Amos wished to seek political asylum in the US, the immigration officers arrested him and Amos has been in American jail since Dec 16 2016, awaiting his court date and hopeful release on Jan 30th 2017.

Amos's pro-bono human rights lawyer, Sandra Grossman, hoped that Amos would've been released from jail shortly after New Year's Day but due to the fact that Amos entered the country on the Visa Waiver Program, Sandra soon received news that Amos's court date will instead be scheduled for Jan 30th. Until then, Amos is required to stay in american jail. The total time that Amos would've been in jail by then is 50 days.

Amos's arrest is absurd, highlights the flaws of immigration policy and is contradictory to the principles of free speech America claims to hold. This petition was made to demand the immediate release of Amos from American jail. He should not have to remain in jail any longer for asking to seek refuge from a country that has imprisoned him for exercising his free speech. Anyone who holds free speech as a virtue and who acknowledges the flaws of US immigration policy should sign and share this petition.
