We are just on the way back from the Department of Home Affairs office in Pretoria. First, we went to the head office in Pretoria but they wouldnt even let us into the door. Then we went to another office in Pretoria to register our baby. They refused again - even though all our documents are in order and we are the legal parents of our baby boy. They said that we have to go back to the Department of Home Affairs in Middelburg (the office which refused to register or baby in the first place). We tried to argue and fight to no avail. They just kept on saying that this is their procedure and we have to follow the procedure. The official was incredibly rude to us and told as several times to be quiet so that he could speak. The Department of Home Affairs is the epicentre of homophobia in South Africa. We have already consulted with 2 different lawyers and if they continue to refuse to register our baby's birth we will sue the Department of Home Affairs.
