"No to rejection, yes to treatment!" A Petition for the strict Implementation of RA 8344
"No to rejection, yes to treatment!" A Petition for the strict Implementation of RA 8344
The Issue
Many filipinos have died due to public and private hospitals' refusal to administer treatment in emergency cases. Families are left in despair since they have experienced injustice. Reasons for the hospital's denial is either due to insufficient facilities or patient indigency.
Victims have died in vain due to lack of immediate treatment. This is against the Republic Act 8344 wherein hospitals are not allowed to refuse patients on any ground. The law penalizes the refusal of hospitals and medical clinics to administer appropriate initial medical treatment and support in emergency or serious cases. For circumstances of inadequate facilities or patient indigency, transfer is allowed, provided that necessary emergency treatment has been given to stabilize the patient.
Each person has the right to receive proper medical care and treatment, regardless of financial incapacity. Let us all work together in providing justice to the families of these victims and eventually put an end to this malpractice.
