Stop forced labour cotton from our apparel

The issue

Since 2017, China has placed a systematic dismantling and persecution of the Uyghur minority in the Xingjiang region. It has done this by employing mass surveillance on the Uyghur minority and establishing internment camps within the region to detain Uyghurs en masse. Investigations from the Wall Street Journal, Axios and Australian Strategic Policy Institute have found evidence connecting the detention of Uyghurs to the supply chains of many global fashion retailers.

On 22 September 2020, the Uyghur Forced Labour Prevention Act passed the House of Representatives in the US. This Act aims to prevent forced labour cotton from reaching the United States and imposes fashion retailers to report on their supply chains.

Australia should also introduce our own importation ban in legislation to stop our apparel being tainted with forced labour.

Please, sign and share this petition to send a message to the Australian Government to make it clear that ethically and morally we do not condone the use of forced labour to produce our products.
