STOP Kaliwa Dam Project

STOP Kaliwa Dam Project
The Issue
For years, environmental and indigenous groups have continually opposed the New Centennial Water Source-Kaliwa Dam project. However, the danger is more imminent as the concern for water supply in Metro Manila increases. The recent “water crisis” was then used to expedite and justify the Kaliwa Dam Project as the most viable “solution” despite other existing alternatives.
We, individuals and organizations under the STOP Kaliwa Dam (Sectors Opposed to the Kaliwa Dam), are gravely concerned with the government’s attempt to use the “water crisis” in Metro Manila to aggressively push the Kaliwa Dam Project. We reject the project on the following grounds:
1. It violates legal processes. 2. It will destroy the area’s rich biodiversity 3. It will contribute to the climate crisis. 4. It will come at an enormous social cost 5. It puts people’s lives at risk. 6. It will add to debt and tie us to an onerous loan we do not need. 7. It will affect the lives of Dumagat (indigenous people) that live there.
REAL solutions to the water crisis
To ensure water security in Metro Manila, a dam cannot deliver this alone. There is need to explore all viable solutions that will create the least adverse impact to the environment and our people.
With various experts’ insights, there are many alternative and more sustainable solutions:
1.Watershed forest conservation 2.Repairing and improving existing dams 3.Protect and rehabilitate degraded watersheds 4.Repairing and improving water distribution facilities 5.Explore and apply new technologies 6.Applying and strengthening water conservation policies
Our Mother Nature is one of the greatest gift given by our God. We, humans, are the one who's responsible on taking care and protect our home. Help me to sign this petition to create a change and to open the eyes of the Filipinos to support this petition.
