Preserve and Protect The Coral Reefs of The Philippines

The Issue

Our coral reefs, which have been a source of livelihood for more than a million small-scale fishers, are in a dire situation. Having been stages of extensive overfishing, destructive fishing methods, and sedimentation that could kill coral. Not only are they destroyed by the aforementioned causes, they are also brought  down by climate change and warming waters, which cause devastating effects to the corals causing them to convulse and release the algae inside them that give sustenance.

70% of Boracay's Reefs are damaged by unmonitored recreational activities. Dynamite fishing kills in seconds what reefs built in centuries.

We need these reefs to keep the waters of the Philippines pristine and in condition, while also to keep the marine life in our area swimming and breathing.

R.A No. 10067 Which states that the Tubbataha Reefs is now a protected environment of the Philippines and is under conservation.

We seek the possibility of incorporating R.A No.10067 (The Tubbataha Reef Act of 2009) to the existing environmental laws of the Philippines. Establishing the major reefs as Protected Habitats would minimize the unmonitored activities in their vicinity.
