Attendance Relaxation for Final Year B.Tech.

The Issue

The 4th Year Students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Delhi Technological University's Dept. of Electrical Engineering are in deep water. Thanks to the mandatory attendance policy of the University, people are having to choose between two choices. They can either attend the calsses to avoid detention or they can plan their after-B.Tech. coure of life viz. appearing for the placement tests of companies visiting daily or prepare for CAT/GRE/GATE.

We indeed chose the latter option. However, the intriguing question is how we manage attendance. We observe Mass-Bunks. We miss the class so that nobody fulfils the mandatory 75% criteria. We do this assuming that the authorities will adopt a sympathetic and humane stand and will not spoil 100 careers by detaining all. They indeed have been doing this so far.

This does not solve the problem. The students are still unendingly at loggerheads with the authorities over Mass-Bunk issue. There are students who even want to attend the classes but don't as they empathise with the batchmates whose future prospects are at stake.

Howsoever grave it might appear, the quagmire does have a solution. What if respected authorities abolish the mandatory attendance policy? This will ensure that there is no need of a mass-bunk and all lectures will then be able to take place so that those who are placed and are interested may benefit from the lectures. We can assure the authorities that at least all the lectures of EEE VII Sem would proceed without a hitch.

WE REQUEST THE HEAD OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT TO TAKE COGNIZANCE OF THE MATTER AND TO ASSUME A STANCE WHICH EMPATHISES WITH THE STUDENT COMMUNITY.
