Say NO to Bullying - Safeguard our children's mental health in state schools (MKET)
Why this petition matters

SAY NO TO BULLYING - Being a mother to a child who is a victim of bullying, you can feel isolated, lost and disempowered. Every parent desires for their child to have a happy school life & a quality of education that doesn't impact negatively on their mental, physical or emotional wellbeing/health. Simply put, bullying ruins lives, it can have a devastating and negative long term impact on both the child and wider family unit. If we keep quiet and do nothing, the required change we need to see in our schools will not happen. When bullying happens within the confines of a school, the parent looks to the school authorities to address it in a thorough and effective manner, so as to effect change in the perpetrators. The duty of care the school has in relation to students is laid out clearly in the 1) The Children Act 1989, 2) Section 175 Education Act 2002, 3) Section 89 Education Inspections Act 2006
When the school fails in its duty to handle bullying effectively, it fails in its legal obligations to the child. My daughter used to be a bright & happy child . She is an 11 year who is suffering mental anquish at school as a result of bullying, this has led to panick attacks, insomnia, high levels of anxiety, low mood & feelings of disillusion. She feels unwell due to the above, and as a result has missed out on quite a bit of her education over the last couple of months. Simply put, she does not feel safe at school & I have on occasaion been forced to remove her from the site, as I feared for her safety. The school, Walton High Brooklands Campus, Milton Keynes refuses to do the right thing by heavily sanctioning the bullies, and continues to fall short in their duty of care. Simply put, the victim is being made the Villan, and she has had punitive sanctions against her when she tried to stand up to the bullies. I have documented all my concerns in writing to both the school, governing bodies, and my local MP. I am also following all the set out school appeal & school complaint processes. I do not want my daughter to become yet another statistic, or be educationally disadvantaged as a result of the schools failure to act effectively. I just want her to return to the happy, bubbly child she used to be, with a passion for learning that is being eroded daily. School mornings is now a distressing affair in our household.
It is my hope this petition will force the school to review its Anti-bullying policy and how it is enforced, and force a review of this across the Milton Keynes Education Trust. This would ensure other students and families do not have to go through the anquish and pain we are currently facing. Any form of discrimination, bullying or abuse should be frowned upon, and we owe it as a society to say NO TO BULLYING. I thank you in advance for your support.
