Revision of the School Policy on the Ban of Electronic Gadgets in Makati Public Schools

Revision of the School Policy on the Ban of Electronic Gadgets in Makati Public Schools
The Issue
According to Section IV Part A of the student handbook, the policies being implemented in our school serve the definitive purpose of making learning possible. Policy No. 11 supports this by stating that the Department of Education encourages all public schools to be conducive to learning.
Section 12.2 of the student hand book states that "DepED Makati concurs with the standing order of the Department of Education against the non-curricular use of electronic devices in the school premises". Thus, students in the public schools of Makati are banned to bring cellphones and electronic gadgets to school unless they have a parent's permit that they could use it in school only for emergency communication. It also states that the school has the right to confiscate the gadgets when used inappropriately. Seeing how the only reason mentioned under this section that devices may be used are for emergencies, then any purpose otherwise would be deemed as "inappropriate".
With the ban of bringing cellular phones and electronic gadgets, we believe that we will not be able to attain the quality education we deserve. Tasks such as accessing our digital reference materials, recording lectures, preparing powerpoints, and doing online research will no longer be allowed to be done in classrooms.
Having said all of this, we respectfully ask DepED Makati to abolish the policy on the ban of bringing electronic gadgets. Instead, they should allow it but the students' subject teachers should be the one to permit the use of gadgets. If they do not deem that their lesson, lecture or teaching activity recquires the use of cellphones then they may ban the use of devices during their period.
By adding my name to this petition, I agree to the aforementioned revisions to the school policy.
