Get our schools to go online

Get our schools to go online

The Issue

Our life is a precious and gift to each one of us. It seems that the state of New York places less value on the life of it’s residents than other communities across the nation and the world. As part of the human race each one of us has a responsibility to counter the spike in new Corona Virus cases and to flatten the upward curve that it currently is on. The State of Florida has less than 100 cases and they have been proactive in shutting down their schools. And so have many other communities. Health systems in developing countries, such as in the state of Kerala in India have enacted better strategies to counteract the spread of the disease. New York State has more than 400 cases, definitely an underestimate due to under reporting and the long incubation period, but the administration seems to be moving at a snail pace. Why is our reaction knee jerk rather than proactive? Why are we not nipping the problem in the bud by closing down our schools? Is reducing large gatherings and cleaning up schools an ultimate option to reduce the spread ? Thank you to Governor Coumo and County Executive Laura Curran for addressing the situation appropriately but we need more help that this.
Let us use technology at this time to counteract the various arguments being put forth to not close the schools. Use various advances in technology such as google classroom and zoom to impart education to our students and keep them from being transmitters of the disease.
Let us come up with a better plan to protect our public.  Let resources be available for parents who have to work no matter what. Make a plan to provide food for children who depend on schools. Please let us get all our Long Island schools closed for 2 weeks to reduce the spread.
