COVID-19 & HIGHER ED: Eradicate Remaining Student Balances for the Spring 2020 Semester

The Issue

Among the direct, devastating impacts of what has become a global pandemic and national health emergency; the CoronaVirus (COVID-19) is also directly affecting students of higher education.

Due to the unanticipated effects of the virus, students have been displaced from university housing, many of which were left unemployed, homeless and may not have the adequate funds to cover day to day necessities such as food, toiletries and other basic necessities for an emergency.

Although President Donald J. Trump addressed waiving interest on student loans, payments will remain. Nevertheless, it is time to shed the light on a new, yet relevant conversation. There are students who still have remaining, unpaid balances on their student accounts for the Spring 2020 semester. However, due to the unanticipated national health emergency, many families and students have been left without employment, and only have the funds to cover daily expenditures.

For this reason I am requesting that all students across the United States, in partnership with teachers, professors, faculty members and members of all communities across the nation come together to support the eradication of any remaining student balances for the Spring 2020 semester. It is a tough time for our students and their families, as resources and savings eventually become deficient.

I am earnestly asking that we come together as a community to bring this concern specifically to the attention of state representatives, mayors and governors as well as to the United States Department of Education, and our President Donald J. Trump. This change can not be done without you!
