Matthew Fontaine Maury joined the Confederate Navy and in his honor, there was a high school in Norfolk, Va named after him. Well, we’re forced to change ALL that represents the struggle of Black people across the nation. Confederate statues in the City of Norfolk has been removed or set for removal.

To honor the Norfolk 17, I believe Maury High School should be named after the first African American to attend that school, Louis Cousins. He recently passed away and it would be a TRUE honor to dedicate TODAY with his legacy and his name.
