Say "NO" to charter school in Wyandanch
The Issue
- We the undersigned concerned residents of the Wyandanch community oppose the Proposed Charter school in our community. We believe in the strength of our new Superintendent, Dr. Gina Talbert and newly elected board. We stand in support of the changes that have been put into place to ensure our district is fiscally sound so our children receive the best education. We believe the district is moving in the right direction and the formation of the charter school will not aid in the forward movement. As you can see it says career charter which their goal is to center around employment and not education. They have already targeted the students that they want. A survey went out in the fall and residents filled them out and this is how they are attaining their percentages. It does not reflect the community intrest because only a select few were told. Many of the residents of Wyandanch have not heard of this charter until recently. The community just came together in unity to pass a budget for the Wyandanch School District and we are excited to get to work on a positive upward flow. This charter will be a distraction to the process. The charter has consulted with neighboring communities (Lindenhurst) to get support but NOT the Wyandanch community. As you may know Wyandanch is a minority community and they have no diversity in their positions at the charter. There is one person from the Wyandanch community that is on their board.
