It has been SUCH a long time since I have felt genuine hope and a tangible swell of support, and it hasn't even been given to me or what I have tried to promote when I launched this petition over three years ago. And I simply don't care about that.
What I care about is that adults, important adults with influential jobs and roles in society, from Professors in Teen/Cognitive Neuroscience to concerned and invested parents, are speaking up and out about the immensely detrimental impact of these devices.
WE HAVE GOT TO DO SOMETHING.
Thank you so very much Sunday Times for the fantastic article this weekend, fronted and contributed to by the fabulous Sophie Winkleman. I support, endorse, get behind, whoop-whoop at and with the group @usforthemuk who have just launched their campaign to completely change the way we view phones in the hands of our youngsters.
Please do sign and share my petition and whilst you're at it do consider entering your name here: SAFE SCREENS FOR TEENS
I have been utterly horrified in my personal and professional life as a doctor to see the immense and real harm of these devices. The inflation of teen problems into full blown disasters inflicting severe and scarring emotional harm. It is a travesty that we have all allowed it to get this far.
Legislation. Protection. Adult responsibility. The revival and reinvigoration of the notion of a child being allowed to be a child. It is all coming. I feel positive today.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support.
Onwards!!!
