Please do not get me wrong. I think the work of Soma Sara 22, co-founder of Everyone's Invited is inspired and brilliant. Not to mention, much needed.
However, I was alarmed at yesterday's headline in the Sunday Times: 'Report boys to the police for sexual abuse, top schools told.'
If you spend a bit of time on the instagram site @everyonesinvited, you will see a huge proportion of the incidents victims describe relate back to phone and social media misuse.
Surely, before we start to convict CHILDREN of these crimes, we need to at least do them the service of removing the one device that has been neuroscientifically proven to dramatically impact and change their judgement, reactions, awareness of consequences and risk-taking behaviours, at a time when the teenage brain is vulnerable to all these issues anyway!
What on earth are we doing? When is someone going to act??
Please, please share my petition and encourage others to sign if you agree.
My most heartfelt condolences to the family of Sarah Everard. What an appalling and devastating tragedy.
