We the undersigned favor halting the development of the massive new Anita May Rosenstein Campus until which time neighbors of the facility have had sufficient time to assess and comment on its impact on their community.

As part of a major expansion scheduled to break ground in 2016, the Los Angeles LGBT Center has plans for a mixed-use development that will provide housing for at-risk youth and seniors, as well as for the creation of a new facility providing health-related services. 

Located between Las Palmas & McCadden, and Santa Monica Blvd & Lexington, this enormous new project has yet to be sufficiently evaluated such that residents, businesses, and others within its immediate vicinity might be able to understand its potential impact in terms of crime, vagrancy, and quality of life issues.

Until which time those supporting the construction of the new Anita May Rosenstein Campus can demonstrate a sincere willingness and an ability to address, with concrete solutions, the issues of crime and vagrancy surrounding the current LGBT Youth Center, no further planning of a new, much larger facility should go forth.  (Efforts over the past year to work with the Youth Center to resolve such matters have met with extremely limited success).

In addition, the imposition of this demographically seismic adjustment to our neighborhood stands in direct opposition to sound urban planning practices. 

While we ultimately support the goals of the Anita May Rosenstein Center, those spearheading its introduction into our neighborhood have demonstrated an appalling lack of consideration for those living in its shadow.

Whatever good this center is intended to accomplish, the end does not justify the means.
