Stop Comprehensive Sexuality Education in SA Schools

The Issue

The Department of Basic Education has been teaching Comprehensive Sexuality Education since the 2000s. They did this without consulting parents or teachers. They have adopted United Nation's Comprehensive Sexuality Education which is a world-wide program that sexualizes children from a young age. The DBE have received funding from USAID - The United States Agency for International Development. Reviewed Lesson Plans for LO includes extremely graphic sexual content from as young as grade 4 until Grade 12.

Lessons include class discussions on private parts, discussing various scenarios on same-sex attraction and graphic descriptions of paedophilia, attempted rape and pre-teen molestation. Abortion is mentioned as part of "preventing sexual reproductive health problems". Grade 8's are to be taught the difference between vaginal, oral and anal intercourse.

These are just a few of the examples. As parents, teachers, guardians, community leaders and religious leaders, we are concerned that this curriculum will do more harm than good. We do not want any sexual education taught at school. Sexual education needs to be in the parents' control as we believe that parents know what is best for their child. The government has gone behind our backs to implement something that is ultimately damaging to an entire generation. We want sex-ed out of the curriculum and out of the schools.

We need parents, extended family and the community (social workers, NGOs, religious institution) to teach and help our children grow. It is not the government's role to raise our children. The government is infringing on our rights as parents and their self-appointed mandate to teach sex-education in classrooms is a direct threat to our liberty.
