Mayo County Council and the Depart of Agriculture must appoint an ISPCA Inspector in Mayo
The Issue
There is no designated animal welfare officer in County Mayo. Currently the Department of Agriculture, Mayo County Council and An Garda Siochana have responsibility for animal welfare complaints, as a consequence no one agency has direct responsibility for reports of animal abuse. Currently there is a dog warden in Mayo who's sole focus is on the micro-chipping of animals and licenses.
We need the Department of Agriculture and Mayo County Council to Appoint a welfare officer who is tasked with responding to public call-outs regarding possible abuse of animals, investigating these abuses and where necessary take the necessary steps to ensure a positive outcome for the welfare of the animal. These powers must include where necessary the immediate removal of the animal from abusive situations and prosecution of the perpetrators .
