I am proposing that we make a change to how a proportion of the foreign aid budget is spent.Currently 8 % of the foreign aid budget goes to environmental projects such as building wind farms and installing solar panels etc.These projects are largely ineffective.

I propose giving a minimum of 10% of the foreign Aid budget exclusively to reforestation projects throughout the world.

We are all contributing to rainforest destruction in the goods that we buy everyday.Forests are cleared to graze cattle to give us cheap meat, they are cleared for palm oil plantations to give western manufacturers cheap oils.The whole planet is being destroyed for short term profit of a few companies.

An area the size of a football pitch is cut down every minute in the Amazon rainforest!

It is well documented that planting trees is by far the single most effective thing to do to combat climate change.They take the CO2 out of the atmosphere and give us back oxygen.They are the lungs of the planet, so why are we doing nothing and allowing them to be cut down?

This change to the budget would allow us to reforest areas that have been cut down and pay other countries not to cut down their forests in the first place.

They have to have more value standing, rather than cut down.Nobody could have any criticisms of this departments spending as it would be a benefit to everybody, home and abroad.
