Geoff Baker started this petition to department for environment food and rural affairs

In one of the most astonishing acts of backward-thinking of modern times, British farmers are pushing for the lifting of a pesticide ban which will mean the mass extermination of millions of bees in order to grow more of one of the world's most health-damaging foods, sugar.

As bees - which were recently declared The Most Important Species On Earth by the Earthwatch Institute - are so essential to 70% of the world's agriculture, the killing of these crucial and already-endangered pollinators must not be allowed.

We call upon the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs [Defra] to reject any lobbying by sugar beet farmers and sugar beet processor British Sugar for the EU ban on neonicotinoid pesticides to be lifted in the UK.

Please sign the petition to save Those Good Bees and/or write to George Eustice, Secretary of State for the Environment at george.eustice.mp@parliament.uk

Thank you.
