The Wild Animals in Circus Act 2019 was passed successfully in England and Scotland banning the use of wildlife in circuses. Ireland have also successfully prohibited the use of wildlife in circus in 2018.

Northern Ireland has yet to adopt these laws thus allowing the cruel manipulation of wildlife to continue. These cruel spectacles will be allowed to continue if the Northern Ireland Executive do not provide a firm commitment in the protection of these animals.

There has already been some victory in Northern Ireland with a handful of local councils implementing a ban on animal circuses in their area such as Belfast and Moyle. 

It is impossible to ignore the welfare issues associated with travelling circuses. Limited space for animals, long and exhausting transportation from venue to venue is only some of the many concerns for circus animals.

Northern Ireland must take a step forward out of the dark ages and protect the innocent animals who are relying on us to be their voice. End the suffering.
