The Issue

Mona, Utah and the neighboring areas of Juab county stand out for their rural landscape and tight-knit community. The proposed AI data center brings significant concerns to the well being of our community. The chief concerns include the enormous demand for water usage that Data centers consume, risks of contamination to our local groundwater, and the increased strain on the electrical grid.

We appeal to the Mona City Council to reconsider the zoning and permitting process for this project. By denying these, the council has an opportunity to stand for the preservation of our community's character of small town agriculture.

We urge all supporters and concerned citizens to sign this petition, sending a clear message to our local leaders that the residents of Mona value their environment and community more than ambiguous economic gains. Sign now and make a difference!

Thank you for reaching out. We want to clear up a couple of things. The approvals for the AI Data Center came from the Juab County Commission, not from Mona City. The zoning and permits for this project were also approved at the county level. Mona City did not make those decisions and was made aware of them just as you were. That said, Mona City is against the AI data centers being developed here. We share the concerns many of you have about water use, possible groundwater contamination, added strain on our power grid, and the impact this could have on our rural and agricultural way of life. Mona City is also concerned about how this was handled. Many residents feel they were not properly notified about what was being approved. People deserve clear information and a fair chance to speak up before decisions like this are made. Even though Mona City did not control the zoning or permitting, we are looking at what options may still be available and how we can continue to stand up for our residents. We will keep pushing for transparency and for the community to be properly heard. If you want to stay involved, we encourage you to: • Attend the meetings held at the county. • Reach out directly to county commissioners. • Commissioner Marty Palmer • Commissioner Marvin Kennison • Commissioner Clint Painter • Submit public comments. Mona City appreciates everyone who has taken the time to speak up. I will continue to support efforts to protect our water, our land, and the rural character of our community.
