The Issue

I'm reaching out from the heart of our cherished rural community near West Midway Road and I-95 in Fort Pierce, where families like mine have long valued the tranquility and quality of life we enjoy. Today, we face a significant threat to this way of life: a proposal to rezone 174 acres of our beloved land for the construction of a sprawling data center.

This rezoning plan brings with it a cascade of concerns. Notably, the environmental impact on our rich local ecosystem is worrisome; these data centers typically require vast amounts of water for cooling systems, potentially straining our already limited resources. Additionally, the increased power demands will necessitate further infrastructure developments, possibly at the detriment to individual property rights and current farmers' operations.

The negative impact extends beyond just infrastructure concerns. With the introduction of large-scale data centers, our community could be flooded with heightened levels of noise, primarily from the constant hum of generators, which often run 24/7. For those of us who cherish the rural soundscape, this noise pollution poses a stark contrast to the peaceful surroundings.

Traffic patterns would also shift significantly. The influx of construction vehicles initially—and potentially maintenance and other service traffic later—will further burden our local roads, disrupting the daily lives of residents and small businesses and increasing wear and tear on infrastructure. Local homeowners may find their quiet neighborhoods suddenly vibrant with activity they're not prepared to accommodate.

In Fort Pierce, we understand the need for growth and modernization. However, we believe in responsible development that prioritizes community well-being and harmony with the environment. Building such a large-scale facility without sufficient guarantees against these impacts strikes us as neither responsible nor considerate of our area's unique character.

Therefore, I urge Fort Pierce officials to consider the broader implications for residents, businesses, and the environment. We need growth that respects our community values and safeguards the serene, rural life we've nurtured here for generations.

Please join us in asking our local officials to deny this rezoning request. Sign this petition to protect our community, our environment, and our way of life.
