Deny Rodger May's Bid and Stand with Silver Bay Seafoods

The Issue

Dear Judge,

I write this letter to you with a heavy heart, speaking not only for myself but for the entire community. I am a resident of King Cove, a place that once thrived alongside the operation of Peter Pan Seafoods. However, the memory of Rodger May’s ownership is not a happy one, in fact it is better described as painful. His actions during that time changed our lives forever, and the damage he left behind is still felt by many of us.

When Mr. May took Peter Pan Seafoods into bankruptcy, it wasn’t just a business that collapsed, it was our entire community. Overnight, the processing plant in King Cove was shut down, leaving families, fishermen, and community members devastated and uncertain about their futures. For many of us, the plant wasn’t just a place where fish were delivered, it was the heart of our small town. When it closed, some people had no choice but to leave, breaking apart our community even further. To this day we are still grappling with the loss.

The relationship Mr. May had with the fishermen and the people of King Cove has been broken beyond repair, there is no trust left. If Rodger May is allowed to regain control of Peter Pan Seafoods, we fear that he will once again prioritize his own financial interests over the wellbeing of our town, leaving us to pick up the pieces once again. Or even worse, he may not open the processing plant again. The damage was not just economical, but extremely personal. We are a proud, hardworking community, and what happened under Mr. May’s leadership broke something inside of us that may never fully heal.

Since then, Silver Bay Seafoods has stepped in, offering hope when we thought none was left. They have shown that they understand what it means to be part of a community like ours, and they have demonstrated that they care about our future and our people. When Rodger May abandoned us, Silver Bay Seafoods came in to help us, giving us a reason to believe that our town can recover.

I am pleading with you to take this into consideration. Allowing Rodger May to take control of Peter Pan Seafoods would not just be a step backward, but it would be a reopening of bad memories that have yet to heal. On behalf of the families, fishermen, and businesses of King Cove, I beg the court to reject Rodger May’s bid and allow Silver Bay Seafoods, who has been designated as the backup bidder, to purchase the assets of Peter Pan Seafoods.

Thank you for hearing our story, and for considering the lasting impact this decision will have on our lives and the generations to come.

End of Letter*

We cannot allow Rodger May to repeat this destruction. Make the choice that points toward resilience, recovery, and respect for our community. Stand with Silver Bay Seafoods. Please, sign this letter/petition.
