The Issue

Bartow County is considering rezoning approximately 111 acres near Brown Farm Road from agricultural and low-density residential use to industrial use for a data center under case Z-26-00029.

Families already live and own homes near this property. We are concerned that placing a large industrial facility in this area could permanently affect nearby neighborhoods and residents’ quality of life.

Our concerns include continuous humming and low-frequency noise from cooling equipment, fans, transformers, and backup generators; heavy water and electricity use; stormwater runoff and construction sediment; diesel fuel and chemical storage; generator emissions; traffic; lighting; and possible effects on the Etowah River and nearby groundwater.

Residents have not yet been given enough complete, publicly available information about the final operator, equipment, building locations, projected noise levels, water use, wastewater, environmental protections, or distance from nearby homes.

We ask the Bartow County Planning Commission and Commissioner Steve Taylor to deny rezoning case Z-26-00029 or postpone the decision until independent noise, water, environmental, stormwater, and traffic studies have been completed and made available to the public.

Once this land is rezoned and developed for industrial use, the effects on nearby families and the environment may be permanent. Please protect the residents who already call this community home.
