The Issue

Please deny NIPSCO’s 2025 Electric Rate Case Request!!

NIPSCO says the ~22% increase is necessary…“Generating cleaner electricity from renewable energy projects and upgrading our electric infrastructure are some of the key factors leading to NIPSCO’s request with the IURC to adjust its base electric rates next year.”(NIPSCO Regulatory Page).  NIPSCO is also requesting a 79% increase for the monthly fixed charge.

While I understand that businesses face various challenges, I believe that any rate hike is unjustified, especially when comparing NIPSCO rates to other electric providers…

·         NIPSCO’s CURRENT electric rates are already ~15% higher($0.166kWh) than the Indiana average($0.144kWh)

·         If approved, NIPSCO’s NEW electric rates(~$0.20kWh) will be 39% higher than the Indiana average

·         If approved, NIPSCO’s electric rate will be higher than the average kWh rate in roughly 40 states…only 10 states will have a higher average rate than NIPSCO, all of which are found in expensive areas of the country

NIPSCO presented the same reasons for a rate increase in their 2023 Electric Rate Case Request.  The promises of large investments now will lead to lower rates later is not working and driving up costs substantially.  Their business strategy is not working and something must change.  NIPSCO should not be allowed to hide behind the same false advertising and should be held accountable.  It is crucial to maintain a fair pricing structure that is inline with Indiana and other similar states that allows residents to continue accessing essential services without undue hardship.

Why should Northern Indiana residents pay 39% more than other Hoosiers?
