Deny ICE Access to Our Schools Without Federal Warrants Signed by a Judge
The Issue
This petition is deeply personal to me simply, for the fact that I am a parent, and our children are our future. It dawned on me how vital it is that every person, whether born here or immigrated, must be protected by our federal laws. Schools, as a haven for learning and growth, should be at the forefront of these protections.
Across the nation, schools serve approximately 50.8 million students, many of whom are immigrants or of immigrant descent. The presence of immigration officers in schools, especially without proper federal warrants endorsed by a judge, can induce distress and anxiety among these students, affecting their academic performance and overall wellbeing.
We call upon our local schools and administration to stand firm and deny ICE officers access without proper federal warrants signed by a judge. We believe this action will ensure the protection of our vulnerable students, many of whom already grapple with the challenges of navigating a new cultural landscape.
It's crucial to remember that the Supreme Court has ruled that no student can be denied a public education based on their immigration status (Plyler v. Doe, 1982). Our schools need to honor this ruling, protect our students, and create an environment conducive to learning for everyone, irrespective of their heritage.
Your signature can help safeguard the rights and peace of mind of thousands of students. Please sign this petition and uphold this vital protection for all students in our school system.
