Deny Ex-QANTAS CEO Alan Joyce's Multimillion-Dollar Bonuses

The issue

As a deeply concerned citizen and a loyal customer, I implore you to reconsider the proposed bonuses for Ex-QANTAS CEO Mr. Alan Joyce, which include a long-term bonus of almost $13.97m and a short term bonus of $2.19m. His tenure saw the decline of an Australian icon, plagued by poor customer service, fractured industrial relations, and severe loss of trust.

Under Joyce's leadership, QANTAS faced significant legal allegations. The airline was compelled to pay out an enormous sum of $120 million to settle a legal claim brought by the ACCC concerning the booking of customers on already cancelled flights. The Transport Workers Union (TWU) also won its case against QANTAS for illegally sacking nearly 1700 ground staff. The compensation for these staff now rests with the courts.

Notably, it has been recorded in the Qantas’ 2023 annual report that the company has been experiencing an acute loss of trust from the community, and a severe accumulation of disappointment from customers. This discontent clearly points towards ineffective leadership and poor management strategies under Joyce's reign.

This petition calls for fairness and responsibility. It is beyond unacceptable to reward failure and disregard for hard-working employees and loyal customers with millions of dollars in bonuses. This money could be better spent on restoring the airline's tarnished reputation, improving customer service, and compensating the unfairly dismissed employees. We call on the QANTAS Board of Director's to NOT grant Mr. Alan Joyce's bonuses. Please sign this petition if you believe in fairness, accountability, and the importance of restoring an Australian icon.
