Deny bail on 17 July: Justice for murdered Katlehong crime fighter Thato Mofokeng

The Issue

Thato Mofokeng was more than just a crime fighter; he was a brother and a true friend to all of us in Katlehong. His dedication to keeping our community safe knew no bounds. Tragically, Thato was brutally gunned down in broad daylight at the Letsholo Shopping Centre, leaving our community in shock and mourning.

This was not just an attack on Thato but on the very spirit of our community. His murder took place in front of a minor, showing a complete disregard for human life and the safety of innocent bystanders. This heinous crime demands swift and decisive action from the authorities.

We are calling on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the Presiding Magistrate at Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court to deny bail to the accused on 17 July. Granting bail would send a chilling message that our justice system does not value the lives of those who serve to protect it.

Statistics show that the release of violent offenders often leads to further crimes. In our quest for justice, we must prevent a situation where this criminal could potentially harm others or intimidate witnesses who may come forward to ensure Thato's killers are held accountable.

The future safety of our community depends on sending a strong message that violence against community protectors will not be tolerated. Thato's death cannot be in vain. We must stand up and ensure that justice is served for him and for every member of our community who relies on the bravery and dedication of people like Thato.

By signing this petition, you are supporting our call for justice and helping to ensure that the accused is kept behind bars until they can be brought to justice. Let us honor Thato’s memory by demanding accountability and safety for our community.
