Renaming All City Stadium to Armstrong Stadium

The Issue

This petition is to support the Renaming of All City Stadium to Armstrong Stadium.  This would memorialize the legacy of a young man who's life was cut short at the age of 17.  Davarie Jahlon Armstrong wasn’t a normal teen to say the least.  His passion for sports was the driving force that created an mindset of achieving excellence in all his endeavors.  All City Stadium is a venue he was all too familiar with.  He played in football games at the stadium every year since he was five years old.  He was preparing for his senior year of football at the stadium when a senseless act of violence ended his life on July 11th, 2020.

Born June 9th, 2003, (17), Davarie was heading into his senior year at South High School.  He was a multi-sport scholar athlete and also was a member of the Black Male Initiative. Davarie received scholarships from CDC, and the Black Make Summit prior to his senior year.  He was a member of the National Honor Society, and an honorary member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Davarie was also a young man of faith and belief in the Lord.  He enjoyed worship and fellowship with various churches and Youth Ministries Like YoungLife.  He was well on his way to building a great legacy.   Davarie was a fun-loving young man who enjoyed life.  He was always willing to help others and was a true gentleman.  He was the self-proclaimed “CEO of the best smile in the Colorado.” Over the summer he was employed by the United States Parcel Service as a package handler.  He requested to work a 10pm-4am shift, so it did not interfere with his two a day practices before football season started.  These were not practice sessions ordered by his coaches.  They were voluntary practice sessions.  This speaks volumes to his work ethic and passion for football.  He was the epitome of building legacy.  But on July 11th that building was cut short, coming to the aid of a friend.  But there is still a legacy that deserves to be memorialized.  His COMMITMENT to sharpening his talents, his DEDICATION to his family, and is CHARISMA, that lit up a room will forever be missed by all that were touched by him.

Naming this Stadium not only commemorates a life well done, it also gives the stadium a name of significance.  The name "Armstrong" symbolizes strength.  Can you imagine student athletes in Denver playing their biggest games in "Armstrong Stadium?''  It is a memory a kids would never forget.  And by naming this stadium after  Davarie, the stadium takes on name that speaks honor, courage, commitment, work ethic, excellence, dedication, and strength.  This Stadium becomes hallowed ground.
