Denver Off-leash Designated Parks
Denver Off-leash Designated Parks
The Issue
The leash laws in Denver are much too restrictive, very dog-unfriendly, expensive, and simply archaic. All dogs must be leashed at all times except in designated dog parks. There are very few of these dog parks and they are very poorly maintained (basically small fenced-in dirt). Well-behaved, voice-responsive dogs and their people currently have no good options for having off-leash exercise without the risk of being fined exhorbitant and unreasonable penalties.
The City of Englewood has designated several of its parks as "Multi-Use" parks. From March 1 to October 31, dogs must be leashed between 11am and 6pm. Dogs may be off leash and on voice command from 6am to 11am and 6pm to 11pm. From November 1 to March 1, dogs may be off leash and on voice command from open to close of these designated parks.
The City of Denver should follow suit and this petition will demonstrate that we the citizens and taxpayers of Denver would rather our tax dollars be spent on something other than the strict, inane leash law enforcement that currently exists.
This petition is to change the overall leash law in Denver and is specifically targeted toward designating Rosedale and Harvard Gulch parks as Multi-Use parks with the off-leash hours stated above. It will be delivered to the Denver City Council and Denver leadership once sufficient signatures are collected.
If you have another park that you would like added to the list to designate as Multi-Use with off-leash hours, write it in the comments section or email denveroffleash@gmail.com.
