Sunday June 9th a Denton resident was caught attempting to drown a baby raccoon trapped in a cage, in a trashcan full of water with the lid on it, bricks holding it down. Police were called 6 times, including attempts made by animal control, and showed up more than 2 hours after the initial phone call. No report was taken, and no attempt made by them that night to make contact with the residents, or investigate the issue. Two detectives came out the next day, without prior warning, and asked what happened; neither wrote anything down. They spoke with the accused animal abuser, and were heard laughing with the resident on their way out. Denton Police Department did not take this seriously, as NO CHARGES were filed due to the age of the residents, and "lack of knowledge" as to what to do with the animal.

DPD has failed at protecting our wildlife, and upholding the law. This is reminiscent of the UNT case, where NO CHARGES were brought against the students who trapped and tortured a raccoon. Citizens of Denton demand the officials responsible for this take action, and uphold the law they took an oath to observe.
