Optional masks for Denton ISD students and staff

The Issue

After a year of mandatory masks and social distancing, Denton ISD students and staff are ready to transition back into the normal ways of school. With Texas Governor Greg Abbott abolishing the mandate of masks in school and the student body and staff being heavily vaccinated, there is little reasoning to still have mandatory masks. Masks have shown to obstruct learning in the classrooms and limit social interaction and participation. A vital part of school is social interaction and we cannot let our limited years of schooling continue to be spoiled by the mandate of a mask. In addition, many students looked forward to the normal school year ahead of us and are ready to prepare for the real world and future ahead of us without masks. All signatures are appreciated and we would love to make a difference and make the school year enjoyable for all with a choice of whether or not we want to wear a facial covering.
